The Mummy opens a familiar book, horror television builds out its worlds, and the next wave of games gives us new ways to enter the dark.

News window: October 15 at noon–October 16 at noon, Eastern.

Some books should stay closed. Fortunately for horror fans, Hollywood rarely takes that advice.

The next Mummy adventure has a name, Springfield has more than one Halloween nightmare on the calendar, and Haddonfield is preparing to give Michael Myers two more people to chase. Elsewhere, a French emergency room is becoming fertile ground for body horror, an apparently deathless town is filling out its population, and Ted Raimi would like to offer you a drink.

There is plenty moving across horror today. Let’s open the doors.

The O’Connells have another date with the dead

The Mummy: Book of the Dead is the official title of the next Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz adventure, with Universal reiterating an October 15, 2027 U.S. theatrical release.

For fans of Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, those words carry an immediate association: the dangerous book at the heart of the original adventure. The new subtitle reaches straight into that history. It does not, however, confirm the new film’s villain or explain how the book will figure into the story. That part of the tomb remains sealed.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Their involvement puts the returning adventure franchise in the hands of filmmakers with substantial horror experience, including Ready or Not and Scream.

The prospect is an appealing one: familiar characters, a title rooted in the series’ supernatural mythology, and directors comfortable bringing danger into a crowd-pleasing movie. Whether those ingredients recapture the O’Connells’ chemistry is a question for the finished film. For now, the concrete news is the name—and a date exactly one year after the title announcement. [1]

Body horror is finding very different places to live

A hospital internship and a Hollywood comeback might not sound like neighboring nightmares. Species and Clayface suggest otherwise.

Shudder has acquired Species, the French-language feature debut of Marion Le Corroller, for release in 2027. Also known as Sanguine in France, it follows an emergency-room intern who begins treating people her own age with unexplained symptoms. Then she notices changes in her own body.

Le Corroller co-wrote the film with Thomas Pujol; Mara Taquin and Karin Viard are among its cast. FANGORIA unveiled the acquisition in partnership with IFC Entertainment. An exact streaming date has not been announced.

The premise puts bodily uncertainty somewhere it ought to be understood and treated. A hospital is supposed to offer answers. Making its caregiver a potential patient gives the story a particularly uncomfortable starting point. [2]

Meanwhile, a new Clayface clip adds another glimpse of Matt Hagen’s disastrous attempt to repair his life. Tom Rhys Harries plays the disfigured actor who undergoes a treatment with consequences beyond restoring his appearance.

James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on a story by Flanagan. The film opens October 23. With that date approaching, the new footage offers another preview—but anyone already committed to seeing it may want to preserve the surprises.

These are different takes on a durable horror fear: what happens when your body stops feeling like something you can trust? [3]

A dangerous hitchhiker—and a town you cannot leave

The road-trip rule remains simple: be careful who you let into the car.

Madeleine McGraw, Xochitl Gomez and Jack Champion are joining Bad Influence, a young-adult horror film directed by Jason Perlman and written by Brandon Cohen. McGraw and Gomez play young women traveling home for spring break who pick up Champion’s mysterious hitchhiker.

The setup turns a familiar promise of freedom—a trip with a friend—into an encounter with someone whose identity cannot be taken at face value. It also brings together performers associated with The Black Phone, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Scream VI. A release date has not been announced. [4]

On television, Lauren Cohan, Mark O’Brien and Mia Tomlinson have joined Ben Hardy in Prime Video’s Stillwater.

Based on the graphic novel by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K. Pérez, the supernatural series follows Daniel West into a town where people neither age nor die. Hardy plays Daniel, with Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray writing and executive producing.

Immortality is usually the prize in a story. Here, it is part of the trap. The casting expands the ensemble that will bring that unsettling community to life, although a premiere date remains unconfirmed. [5]

Horror television makes room for conversation, comedy and another trip to camp

Not every horror evening needs to be spent bracing for the next kill. Sometimes the attraction is getting closer to the people who create them.

The new trailer for Your Dearest, Darkest Friend with Ted Raimi introduces a talk-show setting built around a haunted manor, personalized drinks and peculiar puppet residents. Barbara Crampton, Joe Lynch and Joe Swanberg appear in the preview, while The Last Podcast on the Left contributes voices to the puppet ensemble.

The show arrives on Screambox October 30, with new episodes on Fridays. Its premiere date was already known; the new trailer gives viewers a clearer introduction to the format. For fans interested in the personalities behind the genre, it offers a different kind of Halloween appointment. [6]

Springfield, meanwhile, has two.

Treehouse of Horror Presents: The Revengening airs on Fox October 18, with Hulu availability the following day. Its setup brings a killer to town. Treehouse of Horror XXXVII follows on October 25, giving Marge, Bart and Homer another collection of frightening detours.

New promotional images put both installments in view. For anyone whose October feels incomplete without the Simpsons wandering into horror, there are now two dates to circle. [7]

At Crystal Lake, the conversation is about what could come next. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has discussed a possible second season that spends more time with the town’s surrounding characters, drawing on the ensemble possibilities of Twin Peaks.

That is a creative direction, not a renewal announcement. Kane also indicated that his proposed next season would not immediately arrive at the original Friday the 13th movie’s events.

The distinction matters: there is room to imagine a broader Crystal Lake, but imagination is not a production order. In the meantime, the first season’s eight episodes are streaming on Peacock. [8]

The next nightmare might need a controller

Horror games are moving on several fronts: new platforms, new characters, a completed story and fixes for players already inside the nightmare.

When Sirens Fall Silent is expanding to PS5 and Xbox Series, alongside its PC plans. Wired Productions and LKA have also released Act III: The Man, another trailer following the investigation surrounding Mila, a policewoman in early-1990s Italy.

Coming from the studio behind Martha Is Dead, the game places psychological tension inside a case involving kidnappings and murders. The console versions are confirmed, but their announcement does not bring a release date. [9]

In Halloween: The Game, new footage introduces Eugene Kelly and Michelle Blanton, arriving in the Civilian Characters Pack on October 27. The two-character bundle is priced at $9.99 in the U.S.

Their abilities offer different survival approaches. Eugene gains stamina and stalk-related benefits from hiding in bushes; Michelle can extend some healing benefits to nearby teammates. One favors finding cover, the other staying close enough to help.

The wider October update was announced previously. This reveal puts names, faces and abilities to its incoming civilians. [10]

For Hellraiser: Revival players, the most useful development is less glamorous: making sure the game’s horrors are intentional.

Steam Update 1.1 addresses progression blockers, collision problems, missing puzzle elements and visual issues. Saber’s notes also include a startup warning for outdated graphics drivers. Console patches are coming later, without a firm date announced.

A broken encounter can end a horror session as effectively as a monster, so players who have been stuck should check which fixes apply before going back in. [11]

The Killing Stone has a different kind of ending in sight. Question’s occult deckbuilder leaves Early Access on October 21, with releases across Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox Series.

Version 1.0 adds The Reckoning, the fourth and final chapter of its demonic bargaining story. Performances by Emma Gregory and Liam O’Brien accompany a game in which strategic card play becomes a way of confronting the Devil. Dialogue can be experienced in period-style or contemporary English. [12]

Looking further ahead, Snowberry Games’ Silk & Sorrow offers a hand-drawn nightmare built for two.

Two children enter the Chrysalis, a hidden world shaped by what humanity discards. Their glowing companion, Glint, provides help in the darkness, while survival depends on cooperation. The Steam listing supports both online and local co-op and currently gives 2027 as the planned release year.

October 16 coverage identifies a narrower February target, but the official storefront does not confirm that month. For now, 2027 is the safer date to keep in mind.

The appeal is easy to understand: a frightening world becomes a different experience when another person is relying on you to get through it. [13]

A night for horror’s creators—and a chance to bring Jason home

FANGORIA has revealed the presenters for the 2026 Chainsaw Awards, including Lin Shaye, John Kassir, Mick Garris, Felissa Rose and Tiffany Shepis.

Devon Sawa hosts the ceremony, written and directed by Michael Varrati, which airs on Shudder October 25 at 9 p.m. Eastern. The newly announced presenter lineup adds more familiar genre faces to an evening dedicated to the work behind the scares. [14]

For collectors, Jason Universe is offering a chance to win a life-size Jason Voorhees animatronic available through Spirit Halloween. The giveaway closes October 31 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific.

Eligibility and entry conditions depend on the official rules, so check those before participating. The promotion is the new development; the animatronic itself was already available.

Some people put a pumpkin by the door. Others apparently want Jason standing there. [15]

Remembering Jeremiah Kipp

Alongside the announcements comes sad news for independent horror.

Filmmaker Jeremiah Kipp, whose work includes Slapface and The Mortuary Assistant, has died. A Long Island International Film Expo statement, cited in October 16 reporting, relayed that he died on October 13.

His work also included numerous short films, reflecting a career that extended well beyond his most widely recognized features. No cause of death is asserted here.

The Krypt extends its condolences to Kipp’s family, friends and collaborators, and to the independent film community mourning his loss. [16]

Keep a little space on your October calendar

The immediate dates are stacking up: The Simpsons on October 18, The Killing Stone on October 21, Clayface on October 23, the Chainsaw Awards on October 25, Halloween’s civilian pack on October 27 and Ted Raimi’s haunted gathering on October 30.

Beyond Halloween, there are new films, new worlds and some very old curses waiting their turn.
