A Cabinet of Curiosities Opens in Bridgeport This Halloween
By The Krypt
STEP CLOSER
A carved face watches from the shadows. Red coral reaches upward like a frozen flame. A skull shares space with old books, delicate birds and objects that seem to have escaped from somebody else's century.
The cabinet in the accompanying photograph invites a particular kind of attention: slow down, lean closer, wonder what each piece might have witnessed. For collectors of the uncanny, that feeling is half the attraction. An unusual object can become the beginning of a conversation, a collection, even an entire room built around one impossible find.
This Halloween, that curiosity has a destination in Bridgeport.
The Oddities Flea Market's Connecticut Halloween edition takes place Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Foolproof Brewing Company, 800 Union Avenue. VIP entry begins at 11 a.m.; general admission starts at noon, and the market closes at 6 p.m. The organizer advertises more than 45 vendors, a costume contest and a full bar.

FROM A BROOKLYN GATHERING TO A WORLD OF STRANGE THINGS
The market began in 2017 at Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint, where Ryan Matthew Cohn and Regina M. Rossi brought together 70 artists, dealers and colleagues for a single-day show. Thousands attended. The following year, it became a ticketed, two-day event.
Their official history describes an expansion into New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle. Connecticut's Halloween edition brings that curatorial sensibility closer to home for New England collectors.
Cohn, an artist familiar to viewers of Discovery's Oddities, serves as curator and co-founder. Rossi is the executive producer and co-founder, with a background in fashion marketing and a shared interest in unusual art and antiques. Together, they select participants through an application process.
That selection matters. The appeal of an oddities market rests in the people behind the tables as much as the objects on them. A maker can explain a choice of material. A dealer can share an object's known history. A visitor can ask the question a photograph never quite answers: what, exactly, am I looking at?
A HALLOWEEN WITH SOMETHING TO TAKE HOME
Special guest Amy Bruni is scheduled to sign Cuisine To Kill For. Other announced experiences include tarot with Z.G. Burnett, flash tattoos and piercings for adults 18 and older, a Victorian photo setting and live screen printing.
There is room here for different kinds of collectors: the person hunting a statement piece, the reader looking for a strange new book, the friend who dresses like every day is October. The vendor roster offers a reason to explore beyond whichever table first catches your eye.
For The Krypt, that is the strongest invitation: meet the independent people helping this corner of culture stay inventive. Ask about their work. Find the artist you did not know you were looking for. Give a new name a place beside the familiar favorites.

BEFORE YOU CROSS THE THRESHOLD
Children 10 and under enter free with an admitted adult. VIP includes re-entry; general admission does not. The event page lists an accessible entrance and ADA elevator. Confirm current ticket availability, pricing and admission conditions before traveling.
A little preparation leaves more time for the interesting part: the table you circle back to, the object you cannot stop thinking about, the conversation that follows you home.
Halloween offers plenty of ways to be frightened. This is an invitation to be fascinated.
