A Little Romance, a Little Horror: Plan a Couples’ Weekend in Salem

Coffee, monsters, cocktails and a ghost story or two—build a Salem getaway around the things you love being scared by together.

A couples’ weekend in Salem doesn’t have to mean racing from one attraction to the next. Give yourselves a few shared experiences to look forward to, leave space between them, and let the spooky stops set the mood.

Using The Krypt’s Salem listings, this suggested itinerary focuses on October 23–25, 2026. The dated events make that weekend especially useful for planning, while the shops, museums and dining suggestions can help shape another visit too. Nothing here is a confirmed reservation.

FRIDAY: CHECK IN, THEN FOLLOW THE NIGHT MARKET

Start with somewhere to stay. The Hawthorne Hotel is a fitting option to investigate for a horror-loving couple: The Krypt describes a historic working hotel with reported—but unconfirmed—haunting accounts. Its listing gives guaranteed check-in as 4 p.m. and checkout as 11 a.m. Room prices and availability vary, and hotel stays do not include separately ticketed Halloween events.

Once settled, make Salem Night Faire your evening’s main plan. The Krypt lists October 23 and 24, from 5–10 p.m., at Pioneer Village, 98 West Avenue. Expect a night market with oddities, art, performers, ghost stories and food—a chance to browse together instead of keeping a strict timetable.

There is an important catch: the listing says advance sales have stopped and door admission depends on capacity. Dress warmly, allow time for queues and keep an alternative evening in mind. Don’t build the entire trip around guaranteed entry.

SATURDAY MORNING: COFFEE AND MONSTERS

Begin with Blackcraft Coffee, a witch-cottage café inside Blackcraft Salem. Its Witch City-inspired drinks and treats make a fitting opening to a day of horror discovery.

The Krypt notes that coffee is walk-up only during Haunted Happenings 2026, with separate outside lines for store-only visitors and coffee-plus-store visitors. Leave breathing room before any timed booking.

Then choose one morning stop rather than several. Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery is a cinematic monster museum featuring more than 60 life-size horror characters made by professional effects artists. For couples who love creature design and makeup, it gives you plenty to talk about.

Opening hours are not confirmed in The Krypt’s listing, so check its booking link before placing it firmly on your schedule.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: MAKE A DATE WITH NOSFERATU

For a shared experience beyond a standard movie night, The Krypt lists Nosferatu with Live Orchestra at the Peabody Essex Museum on October 24, from 1–3 p.m.

The 1922 silent horror film will be accompanied by a live score performed by Arpeggione Ensemble on historical instruments. It’s a strong centerpiece for a couple who would rather spend the afternoon with a vampire than another ordinary itinerary.

This is the 1 p.m. performance. The listing mentions a separate evening performance, so check the session when booking. Ticket price and availability need confirmation.

Afterward, leave time to browse Nocturne, a nighttime-inspired boutique with independent art, a gothic library, jewelry, perfumes and gifts. Picking a small keepsake for each other is an easy way to make the trip feel personal. Its hours are also unconfirmed in the listing.

SATURDAY EVENING: DINNER, DRINKS AND A WALK INTO THE DARK

Choose Dire Wolf Tavern for a dinner option with food, sushi and cocktails, or consider Turner’s Seafood at Lyceum Hall, listed as an operating restaurant with local ghost lore. Check dining availability before relying on either.

Then choose your evening’s pace.

For more scares, Salem Black Cat Tours offers ghost-story walks departing from 234 Essex Street. The shorter, scarier Moonlight Prowl is listed at 10 p.m. on October Fridays and Saturdays, with an adult price of $24, subject to the selected booking.

For a quieter finish, Hallowed Ground offers an underground cocktail-lounge setting with a dark, old-school atmosphere and late-night menu. The Krypt lists Friday and Saturday hours as 5 p.m.–midnight.

There’s no need to fit both into one night. Choose the ghost walk or linger over drinks.

SUNDAY: HISTORY BEFORE HEADING HOME

Make Sunday deliberately lighter. If opening times and admission work for you, visit the Witch House, the restored home of Judge Jonathan Corwin with a documented connection to the 1692 witch trials.

Treat it as a historical stop, distinct from the weekend’s fictional monsters and ghost-story entertainment. The Krypt does not currently confirm its hours, so avoid promising yourselves a specific Sunday entry time.

PLAN TOGETHER, LEAVE ROOM TO WANDER

Book the experiences that matter most, leave time around meals and queues, and use The Krypt’s Salem search to keep your options together.

A good couples’ getaway needs more than a packed schedule. Sometimes it’s a shared coffee, a strange little shop and a reason to hold hands after dark.

Everything Horror. One Krypt.
